Pete Hammond

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of Pete Hammond who passed away after his battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
Pete was a great servant to hockey who loved the sport and dedicated the majority of his spare time to umpiring, coaching and mentoring at club, county and national level, initially in Kent and then in more recent years for NPUA,West and Devon. He was also an occasional player and umpire at Exeter Hockey Club and in the past was an active committee member within the West and Devon.
A true gentleman with the good of the game always at the forefront of whatever roles he took on and an outstanding umpire who had a great understanding of the game, always umpired with a smile on his face and an enormous amount of empathy towards players.
Pete will be sadly missed by many people, including those who have had the honour of calling him a friend and those who have also benefitted from his coaching and support over many years.
Pete's funeral will be on Wednesday 7th May at 12.30:
Exeter Crematorium, Topsham Road. EX2 6EU
Afterwards at Pete's local and Exeter HC tea venue:
Jubilee Club, 4 Main Road, Pinhoe. EX4 8HS
Pete's family have requested that the hockey fraternity wear 'hockey clothes'.
