Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct

The Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct will take effect as the new seasons get underway.

It will replace the previous 'RESPECT' guidance.

The Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct applies to everyone involved in the sport of hockey, whether this is a player, coach, umpire, official, committee member or other club members or spectators.

England Hockey is dedicated to promoting and protecting the welfare of all participants, urging everyone to consistently uphold and promote the values and integrity of our sport.

The new Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct is significantly streamlined compared to the previous version.

This reflects England Hockey's updated values and is designed to be more concise, promoting a unified understanding of expected behaviours across the sport and within the organisation. The new Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct aims to enhance consistency and inclusivity throughout the hockey community.

If you think that a breach of the Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct or any other action that may bring the sport of hockey into disrepute has taken place, you have the option of raising a Misconduct Complaint.  More details on who can do this and how this can be done are found in the Misconduct Complaints section on this website.

There are important time limits within which to raise a formal Misconduct Complaint, but before doing so consider whether the issue is best resolved directly with any other club or association involved. 

If you need guidance on how to do this, contact the England Hockey Disciplinary Lead or your Area Disciplinary Administrator.

Implementation will  include supporting the hockey community with resources for clubs, guidelines, and educational materials, to promote awareness and adherence. 

Regular workshops and educational opportunities will further support individuals in upholding the principles of the Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct.

Clubs will be able to access downloads via the England Hockey Club Marketing Portal

By adhering to this Spirit of Hockey - Code of Conduct, you will uphold the sports values and contribute to a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. 

Action may be taken if you breach the standards set out in the Spirit of Hockey – Code of Conduct and sanctions may be applied if a serious breach is committed.
